The Challenge Against Cancer Program offers its participants the chance to support cancer research while discovering the world and surpassing themselves through a variety of sporting activities.

This unique adventure takes on a very special meaning, as the funds raised by participants help to make a significant difference to the advancement of cancer research.

Trek in the Calanques National Park

Between Marseille and Cassis nestles a rugged mountain range: the Calanques. Dazzling white cliffs plunging into an azure sea, rich and varied vegetation and a fine network of paths, make this a hiker’s paradise. Classified as a National Park in 2012, it’s one of the rare wilderness areas on the Mediterranean coast to be so well preserved. Here there’s no concrete and no coastal road, but a complex network of valleys, peaks and small coves. It is this mountain range that we invite you to discover. Through its flora and fauna, discreet but very present, and its inevitably rich history seeing as it is located on the territory of the oldest city in France.
We’ll also take the opportunity to discover the Sainte Baume, an astonishing mountain range in the Provençal hinterland, the highest point in the Bouches du Rhône at 1140m in altitude.

YOUR JOURNEY

Day 1 : Montreal – Marseille
Participants meet at Montréal-Trudeau airport and take off for Marseille.

Overnight flight includes dinner, and breakfast.
Day 2 : Marseille – Cassis
On arrival, you will be welcomed by your local guide to be transferred to your hotel in Cassis, about 1 hour from the airport. Cassis is a Mediterranean fishing port overlooked by a centuries-old castle. The town is renowned for its pebble beaches and coves of steep limestone cliffs. Discover the surrounding area, then meet at the end of the day to prepare for the trek starting the following day.

Day 3 : The coves of Morgiou and Sugiton
To start the week, a superb loop that goes from viewpoint to viewpoint through pine forests, bare ridges, bypassing needles, into valleys and finishes on a lookout. Beautiful panoramas of mythical Calanques sites: the traditional little port of Morgiou, the Sugiton and Pierres Tombées creeks and their rocky islets, the Candelle summit and its Candelon, Mont Puget, the highest point of the Calanques and, in the distance, the Riou archipelago and Cap Canaille. This itinerary includes a number of short secure passages (chains or bars to help you hold on).

Day 4 : Secret Coves – Estret Ridge and Devenson Cliffs
A short transfer by car will take us to the heights of the mountain range for immersion into the interior, garrigue hills and lost valleys. From the Estret ridge we’ll climb to Cap Gros for the best view of the mountain range from east to west. After a visit to the summit of Mont Puget, we’ll make our way to the Devenson cliffs before returning via the inland valleys. A superb hike in the wildest and least frequented part of the Calanques.

Day 5 : Sainte Baume, its Grotto and Ridges
At about twenty kilometers from the sea, a 15 km ridge rises to an altitude of 1,000 meters. To the south is the garigue, to the north the last primary forest in Provence and the grotto in which Mary Magdalene sought refuge for the last years of her life, a major place of pilgrimage in Provence. A veritable island of biodiversity, the massif is home to a huge number of species of flora and fauna, making it a naturalist’s paradise! A hike in stark contrast to the Calanques, offering a different view of a little-known Provence.

Day 6 : The Summit of Marseilleveyre and the Malvallons
We will transfer by car to the little port of Les Goudes, the “end of the world” for the people of Marseille and the western extremity of the Calanques mountain range. Between the sea and the mountains lie a series of wild valleys, offering extraordinary views of Marseille harbor, the Calanques massif and the islands. Return on foot to the Pointe Rouge.

Night in Cassis.

Day 7 : En Vau, the Magnificent
Leaving Cassis, we’ll head for the famous En Vau cove and its neighbors Port Pin and Port Miou. We’ll make our way through land and ancient abandoned paths to En Vau, a veritable southern fjord whose cliffs plunge into the Mediterranean. We then follow the coastline to take in some of the most breathtaking views in a Mediterranean atmosphere with the heady scent of pinewoods.

Return to the hotel for the final evening, with a farewell dinner to celebrate your achievement!

Day 8 : Marseille – Montreal
Transfer to Marseille airport for your return flight to Montreal.
