Participants meet at Montreal-Trudeau airport and take off for Cartagena. On arrival, you will be greeted by your local guide and driver, to then transfer to your hotel for the first night in Cartagena.

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Santa Marta, a 5-hour drive. Visit Santa Marta in the afternoon, then check into your hotel to prepare for the trek which begins the following day.

We leave Colombia’s oldest city, Santa Marta, by air-conditioned van and head to the Aguacatera region. Here, we change vehicles and continue by 4×4 to the Mamey (Machete Pelao) area, where we stop for lunch. We begin a 7.6 km trek to the first camp (Cabaña de Adán, a farming community), where we spend the night. We also stop at a crystal-clear river for a refreshing bath.

We start with a trek of around 8 hours, and halfway through, visit the indigenous community of Mutanzhi, where we can get to know the locals. We then arrive at hut 3 (cabaña Paraíso Teyuna, indigenous community). Teizhuna (Teyuna), the sacred city of the Tayronas, lies at 830 m altitude. Along the way, we can see much of the flora and fauna of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a magical destination where the wisdom of nature converges with the indigenous people of the country.

In the late afternoon, free time to relax and take a dip in the river.

Early departure for the mythical Lost City! To reach the sacred site, we have to climb 1200 steps built by the ancient Tayrona people. Once at the top, we enjoy the majesty of the site. If we’re lucky enough to find him on site, the “mamo” (indigenous spiritual authority) will talk to us about his culture, local legends and perhaps even offer us some valuable advice! After a moment to engrave this timeless place in our memories, we head back to camp. After lunch, we start our return journey.

Buoyed by memories of the majestic Lost City, we hike the trails of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, taking in the local flora and fauna and refreshing ourselves in the waterfalls and natural pools.

Last day of the walk, which we start at around 8am.

We have lunch in Mamey, where the vehicle then takes us to the Aguacatera region. Here, we return to our hotel in Santa Marta or another point on the coast.

After lunch, you’ll make your way back to Cartagena. You’ll visit this historic city nicknamed the “Pearl of the Caribbean”. Discover the beauty of the monuments while learning about the city’s rich history and culture. In the evening, enjoy a final farewell dinner before returning to Montreal.
