A Legacy of Courage, A Future of Hope

“Through darkness, I became acutely aware of the incredible power of research. It’s not just about statistics and lab work; it’s about lives transformed, new treatments discovered, and futures reclaimed. I speak to you today not just as an advocate but a voice of hope for those affected by cancer.” kevin fader, Cancer research society advocate and crs donor

Kevin Fader’s story reflects a journey of loss, hope, and discovery. Now a dedicated donor to the Cancer Research Society (CRS), he advocates the importance of supporting cancer research, in memory of his granddaughter. It is through her benevolent spirit and beautiful heart that Kevin found hope in research and those who work tirelessly to develop breakthroughs for patients today and tomorrow. His granddaughter loved helping others, and it is this willingness to lend support that drives Kevin’s advocacy.

A Life-Altering Diagnosis

Kevin’s life changed forever the day his 13-year-old granddaughter, Alyssa, began experiencing persistent pain in her leg. For months, there were no clear answers, only uncertainty. Until the diagnosis, a form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma, finally came in April 2019.

The doctors were very hopeful at first, as they explored treatment options. This hope was shaken when the family learned the cancer had already spread in her main vein during surgery. Her leg was amputated to stop the disease, and she had to learn how to walk again.

Courage in the Face of Uncertainty

Despite the unimaginable circumstances, Alyssa faced her diagnosis with remarkable strength. She remained hopeful, compassionate, and deeply aware of the people around her. Surrounded by her family and supported by others who had experienced similar journeys, she never lost her sense of purpose. “She was a very brave girl. Helping others was important to her.

Through this experience, Kevin’s perspective on cancer and research was transformed. What once felt distant and abstract became deeply personal. When his own family was affected, he came to understand the profound challenges other families face when navigating cancer: the emotional burden, the difficult decisions, and the need for constant and unwavering support.

Before Alyssa’s diagnosis, I hadn’t fully considered the role of cancer research. Today, I recognize it as essential. You gather around the person you love. Family becomes everything and the support you receive is invaluable. When you understand what your donation can do, you realize it truly makes a difference; you feel good when you see the positive outcome on those affected and their loved ones.

A Lasting Contribution to Research

Research is what drives progress: it helps scientists better understand complex diseases, develop more effective treatments, and improve survival rates for patients across the country.

Now, Kevin is committed to continuing Alyssa’s legacy, one rooted in courage, generosity, and care for others. He believes that donating to the CRS and supporting cancer research is one of the most meaningful ways to create change.

By donating today, you are not just funding research; you are giving hope to countless families facing the challenges of cancer. Your generosity can help us unravel the complexities of this disease, leading to better outcomes. Join me in the fight against cancer and let us work hand in hand to transform lives through research. Together, we can make a difference.”
