Urban BBQ 2024: historic record of $790,000 raised
Presented by RBC Royal Bank (Quebec) for a decade now, the 10th edition of the Urban BBQ in support of the Cancer Research Society (CRS) took place on May 28th, with over 1000 guests in attendance, surpassing its goal by raising the record sum of $790,000. Since its first edition, the Urban BBQ has raised over $5.45 million to support the CRS in funding a greater number of innovative research projects on all types of cancer across Canada.
This event held at the Grand Quay of the Port of Montreal represents an opportunity to support cancer research and enjoy a BBQ crafted by Chef Marc-André Jetté in the presence of Ricardo Larrivée, ambassador of the Urban BBQ, and all hosted by André Robitaille, spokesperson for the CRS.
The CRS warmly wishes to thank the partners who made the 10th edition of the Urban BBQ possible, including RBC Royal Bank (Quebec), the presenting partner, Econo-Malls as the platinum partner, and Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton as the prestige partner. The support of Ms. Nadine Renaud-Tinker, Regional President, Quebec Headquarters, RBC Royal Bank, as the honorary event chair, and Mr. Jean-François Prince, Regional Vice-President, Business Financial Services, Quebec Headquarters, RBC Royal Bank, as the chair of the honorary patrons committee, is invaluable to the organization and success of this event. The CRS also extends its gratitude to all honorary patrons, participants, donors, and volunteers.
“In addition to enabling us to more easily detect cancer cases, research makes it possible to offer more precise treatments more quickly, to save even more lives. The work carried out by the Cancer Research Society is at the heart of a healthier Canada, and that is why RBC is proud to present this Urban BBQ once again for this anniversary edition. By rallying around this common mission, we will allow more patients and their families to receive ever more encouraging news,” said Nadine Renaud-Tinker, Regional President, Quebec Headquarters, RBC Royal Bank.
“The 10th edition of the Urban BBQ once again demonstrates the community’s contribution to advancing cancer research more quickly. We are grateful for RBC (Quebec)’s unwavering support and the loyal participants who contribute to such an essential mission,” added Manon Pepin, President and CEO of the Cancer Research Society.
Thanks to the success of the Urban BBQ and other fundraising activities, including those involving the general public, the Cancer Research Society awards new research grants and scholarships across Canada each year. This year, $12.8 million was awarded to about a hundred of the most promising research projects to better prevent, detect, and treat all types of cancer.
