Urban BBQ: 146,000 raised for cancer research despite the cancellation of the event!
Urban BBQ of the Cancer Research Society
Montreal, October 22, 2020 — The Cancer Research Society is proud to announce that $146,000 was raised at last spring’s Urban BBQ, despite its cancellation as many partners and participants chose to honour their financial contribution in support of cancer research.
The Urban BBQ, presented by RBC Royal Bank (Quebec), is an annual gathering of more than 1,200 members of the Montreal business community in support of the Cancer Research Society. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $2.5 million and, against all expectations, this year’s edition will, despite its cancellation due to the pandemic, contribute to research, thanks to the unexpected generosity of its partners and participants. Their commitment to the cause is remarkable and inspiring.
“As you might expect, cancer doesn’t take a break. We are therefore very grateful for the support of our partners and the many participants who made a point of maintaining their commitment, thus enabling us to raise funds for cancer research. I thank them warmly for their generosity. More than ever, we need to unite to support research to thwart this disease,” said Manon Pepin, President and CEO of the Cancer Research Society.
“It is with great pride for us at RBC Royal Bank (Quebec) that we support the Cancer Research Society year after year. It is very important for us to make constant and concrete efforts to continue our commitment to cancer research. It is a disease that affects everyone, near and far, and that is why we want to continue to make a difference,” said Nadine Renaud-Tinker, President of the Royal Bank of Canada (Quebec).
We would like to thank, once again, the participants and partners who made a donation. Among them are : ALRE Properties, Canderel Management Inc, Carbonleo Immobilier, Groupe Deschênes inc. (Espace Plomberium), RBC Royal Bank, RBC Capital Markets and Sun Life Quebec.
