Thank you for a great 2019 season!

Thank you for a great 2019 season!

On November 25, we wrapped up the 12th edition of our Pan-Canadian fundraising event Read for the Cure.

This year, we welcomed 1101 attendees, distributed 3303 books, and raised $100,000 for cancer research!

Envisioned in 2006, Read for the Cure was born from the minds of Emily Babiak, Christine Biggar, Sara Street and Susan Culver. All members of the same Toronto book club, the four women had each been touched by cancer in a personal way and decided that they wanted to do something about it.

In 2007, they approached Penguin Random House Canada, who generously agreed to collaborate with them in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Each event features best-selling authors – published by Penguin Random House Canada – who share stories about their creative processes, their inspiration, or even sometimes their own relationship with cancer.

Since its inception, Read for the Cure has raised over $1.4M for cancer research, and hosted events in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary and Montreal. All proceeds go towards the Cancer Research Society’s Environment Cancer Fund which is dedicated to supporting projects that study the link between environmental factors and cancer.
