Record Support for the Next Generation of Scientists

October 14, 2026 – This year, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) is reaching a new milestone by supporting 10 cancer researchers through its Next Generation of Scientists Awards, a record since the program was established.

Valued at $190,000 over three years, these awards support postdoctoral researchers at a pivotal stage in their scientific journey. The funding enables them to establish their laboratories, build their teams and conduct their own research projects in Canada.

The Cancer Research Society warmly congratulates its 10 award recipients:

  • Meaghan Boileau
  • Michael Desgagné
  • Todd Douglas
  • Clinton Durney
  • Islam Elkholi
  • Sebastian Igelmann
  • Shaghayegh Nouruzi
  • Michael St. Paul
  • Zaid Taha

Building the Future of Cancer Research

Since its launch, the Next Generation of Scientists Awards program has supported dozens of researchers, making a tangible contribution to strengthening Canada’s cancer research ecosystem.

By investing in emerging talent, CRS is helping build a strong and dynamic research community and create the conditions for discoveries that can lead to better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer.

Thank You to Our Partners and Donors

CRS thanks its partners, Ovarian Cancer Canada and The William and Nona Heaslip Foundation, each of which co-funds one grant, as well as all of its donors. Their commitment and generosity are helping to shape the future of cancer research.
