Read for the Cure Celebrates its 14th Year With $120,000 Raised for Environmental Cancer Research

Read for the Cure, presented by Penguin Random House Canada, succeeded during its 14th year, raising more than $120,000 net for the Environment-Cancer Fund at the Cancer Research Society. The fund will support researchers investigating the environmental causes of Cancer in Canadians—and preventative measures to ensure fewer Canadians have to endure the effects of cancer.

With events taking place virtually for a second year, 2021 author conversations began with our first-ever pre-season launch event on June 10, featuring a conversation between Giller Prize-winning author Souvankham Thammavongsa and Penguin Random House Editor Anita Chong, who discussed “How To Pronounce Knife”.

2021 Events with bestselling, award-winning and lauded authors published by Penguin Random House Canada included:

  • Billy-Ray Belcourt, Linden MacIntyre, and Eden Robinson, hosted by Mi-Jung Lee on November 8.
  • Kim Echlin, Perdita Felicien, and Mary Lawson, hosted by Lucy van Oldenbarneveld on November 10.
  • Ashley Audrain, Karma Brown, and Joy Fielding, hosted by Johanna Schneller on November 18.

More than 650 participants purchased tickets to the live events, with more than 1,000 books sold and more continuing to be as supporters purchase book bundles for the holiday season.
