Over 10 million dollars invested in cancer research
Supporting Canadian Researchers to outsmart cancer
In Canada, 2 out of 5 people will receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. Unfortunately, one in four patients will succumb from this disease, which remains the leading cause of death in our country. This urgent situation emphasizes the need to actively support research to fight cancer.
With this perspective in mind, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) renews its commitment to research each year through its Operating Grants Program. Thanks to your generosity, we provide researchers with financial support totaling $125,000 over a two-year period.
This year, we are pleased to announce CRS has awarded 83 research grants, totalling over $10 million. The funded projects have been rigorously assessed by committees of scientific experts to ensure the impact of your donations in outsmarting cancer.
“The CRS plays a central role in the cancer research ecosystem in Canada. By funding a variety of projects, ranging from fundamental research to translational advancements, our goal is to improve cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. Each grant represents an investment in the future to outsmart cancer, an opportunity to advance research for saving lives.” – Manon Pepin, President and CEO of the Cancer Research Society.
“With over 350 funding applications, our Operational Grants program is a real success, highlighting the importance of providing support for research. The selected projects, all of exceptional quality, pave the way for crucial and impactful discoveries in cancer promising significant impact.” – Dajan O’Donnell, PhD, Director, Scientific Affairs and Partnerships at CRS.
We are deeply grateful to all our donors and partners whose generosity drives our mission. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to prestigious organizations that have participated in co-funding some of these grants, including: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research—Institute of Cancer Research, the Canadian Liver Foundation, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, and Desjardins Insurance.
