Major Commitment: $1.5 Million for Doctoral Students in Cancer Research

Congratulations to our first grantees!

The year 2023 marked the launch of our new funding program, the Doctoral Research Awards of the Cancer Research Society (CRS). This initiative represents our commitment to strategically invest in the future of cancer research by providing essential support to doctoral students. With scholarships of $70,000 over a two-year period, our goal is to foster excellence in the next generation of researchers, inspiring them to innovate and conduct cutting-edge research in the field of cancer.

With 170 applications received from doctoral students across Canada, this influx not only demonstrates clear success but, more importantly, underscores the urgent need to support cancer research in our country. Each of these applications has been carefully evaluated by an expert committee.

Initially, we announced that this competition would support 10 students and their research projects. However, owing to the exceptional demand and outstanding quality of the research studies submitted, we are thrilled to announce that ultimately, 21 scholarships have been awarded, amounting to a total of $1.5 million.

“Through the Doctoral Research Awards of the Cancer Research Society, we affirm our support for the future leaders in cancer research, recognizing the crucial role and key involvement of doctoral students within the research ecosystem. By supporting them, we invest in progress to generate significant discoveries and advancements to outsmart cancer.” – Manon Pepin, President and CEO of the CRS.

We express our deep gratitude to all our donors and partners, whose generosity plays an essential role in our mission. We also thank the organizations that contributed to the joint funding of some of these grants: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Cancer Research, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, and Ovarian Cancer Canada.

It is now our pleasure to announce the list of recipients:
