Evaluation committees: the guarantors of our impact
Scientific peer review evaluation committees: the key to funding excellent research!
The Cancer Research Society (CRS) is committed to funding high-quality research into all types of cancer, with the aim of preventing, detecting, and treating this disease. Our deep commitment is to ensure that your donations have a significant impact on the advancement of cancer research. To achieve this, our Scientific Affairs team implemented a thorough peer review evaluation process by forming several committees composed of eminent scientists. These committees allow us to determine annually which research projects to fund. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and partner organizations, this year the CRS is proud to fund 80 research projects valued at $10 million.
With over 350 funding applications received, our grants program once again generated strong interest, highlighting the urgency of supporting research. Furthermore, the impressive diversity of the proposed projects underlined the magnitude of scientific research needs.
We were delighted to host the evaluation committees throughout the month of May
For several weeks, more than 85 specialized researchers, doctors, and clinicians volunteered their time to the CRS to provide rigorous and impartial analysis of the presented projects. In a friendly and stimulating atmosphere, the scientific experts engaged in passionate debates to assess the relevance, feasibility, and potential of each application to outsmart cancer. Scientists scrupulously dissected the strengths and weaknesses of each application with the ultimate goal of selecting the most promising projects to fund.
« Having received funding from the Cancer Research Society prior to attending my first panel review meeting, I came to see first-hand the rigorous review process undertaken by the CRS to fund the most impactful research. The high level of organization by CRS staff along with the dedication of the reviewers and the support of the public make the CRS well positioned to make a significant contribution to advancing cancer research. » – Quote from a committee member
