Christmas Carols for the research: $146,000 raised to outsmart breast cancer
On Monday, December 11, Montreal's Maison Alcan was transformed into an enchanted venue, imbued with the magic of the holiday season, for the Christmas Carols for the research event. Masterfully directed by Dr. Mark Basik, the Communion and Liberation choir offered a spellbinding performance, harmonizing Christmas carols and emotions, in aid of a most important cause: breast cancer research.
This memorable evening, brilliantly hosted by the talented Marina Orsini as Master of Ceremonies, raised an impressive $146,000. These funds, generously contributed by the participants, will be entirely dedicated to the research of Dr. Basik, a renowned surgical oncologist and director of the Cancer Genomics and Translational Research Laboratory at the Jewish General Hospital.
In Canada, one in eight women is affected by breast cancer, making it the most common cancer among women. Despite significant advancements in the medical field, resistant forms of breast cancer, particularly those involving metastasis development, continue to pose challenges with often unfavorable prognoses. Dr. Basik’s research aims to explore specific tumor models of these types of cancer, seeking to personalize the treatment for each patient. This approach paves the way for more effective and adapted therapeutic strategies.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this evening an immense success. Your generosity and your commitment help improve the lives of many women affected by breast cancer. Christmas Carols for the research demonstrated that music, solidarity, and research can work together to outsmart cancer.
