Most people knew Doug as a humble sales manager with a sharp sense of humor. Those who were fortunate also knew him as a loving father, son, brother, and uncle, as well as a loyal friend. His love for life and nature was closely tied to his unwavering passion for golf.
On April 23, 2000, Douglas Brian Shapiro, aged 49, succumbed to non-Hodgkin lymphoma after a long battle.
At the time of his death, Doug was organizing a “50th Birthday Golf Weekend” for several friends who were reaching this milestone in the same year. His friends and family vowed to further his initiative by creating both an annual golf tournament and a commemorative fund in Doug’s honor, with the hope of increasing support for non-Hodgkin lymphoma research.
