Two New Experts Join the Scientific Advisory Committee

March 27, 2026 – The Cancer Research Society (CRS) is proud to announce the appointment of two new members to its Scientific Advisory Committee.

Composed of researchers and physicians from across Canada, as well as a patient representative, the Scientific Advisory Committee supports CRS in guiding its scientific priorities and identifying the most promising areas of research in oncology.

Through their expertise and strategic perspective, the committee members, all dedicated volunteers, play an active role in helping direct CRS investments toward high-impact research that advances cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.

New Committee Members

  • Amélie Fradet-Turcotte, PhD

Researcher in molecular virology and genome instability, she investigates how cells repair DNA damage. Her work focuses on how defects in these repair processes can lead to cancer, and how certain viruses can hijack these mechanisms to promote tumor growth.

“I am honored to contribute my perspective to represent fundamental cancer research on the Scientific Advisory Committee. CRS plays a crucial role in supporting researchers and strengthening Canada’s research ecosystem, fostering scientific excellence and discoveries that make a real impact.”

  • Daniel Schramek, PhD

Cancer biologist, he studies the mutations and genes responsible for tumor development and spread. His research aims to better understand these mechanisms to improve treatments for multiple cancers, including breast, brain, and pancreatic cancers.

“Joining this committee is both an honor and a responsibility. I’m proud to contribute to a community dedicated to advancing life-saving research and supporting scientists working toward better prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer. Together, through collaboration and commitment, we can help accelerate discoveries that bring hope to patients and families. “

We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the departure of Jacques Côté and Rama Khokha, who recently stepped down from the committee. We sincerely thank them for their valuable contributions over the past several years.
