The Scientific Advisory Committee Expands
June 30, 2025 – The Cancer Research Society (CRS) is pleased to announce the appointment of five new members to its Scientific Advisory Committee: four leading scientific experts and one patient representative.
The Scientific Advisory Committee brings together researchers, physicians, and, for the first time, a patient representative. These volunteers from across Canada guide the CRS by shaping its scientific priorities and identifying the most promising research directions. Their mission is to ensure that funding supports innovative, high-impact projects, while always keeping patients’ interests at the heart of their decisions.
Meet the new members:
- Dr. Doreen Ezeife (Alberta)
Medical oncologist at the Arthur J. E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary, she treats lung and breast cancer. Her research focuses on cancer drug access, drug funding, and assessing the value of new cancer treatments.
- Dr. Carman Giacomantonio (Nova Scotia)
Surgical oncologist at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and professor at Dalhousie University, he introduced innovative surgical techniques for cancer treatment in Atlantic Canada. His research focuses on the development of targeted therapies and immunotherapies.
- Dr. Madhuri Koti (Ontario)
Immunology researcher at the Sinclair Cancer Research Institute, Queen’s University, she studies how age and sex influence immune responses to cancer treatments. Her work on the tumor microenvironment contributes to improving treatment effectiveness, particularly in bladder cancer.
- Dr. Anita Koushik (Quebec)
Researcher and Director of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology at McGill University, she studies the causes of cancer to improve prevention and risk assessment. Her research also explores lifestyle factors that can improve prognosis and quality of life in cancer survivors.
- Patrick Sullivan (British Columbia)
A lawyer specializing in commercial litigation, Patrick became a passionate advocate for pediatric cancer research after his son Finn was diagnosed. Since 2008, he has been a dedicated voice for families affected by cancer, working to improve the lives of patients and their loved ones.
Thanks to their diverse expertise and shared commitment, these members will strengthen CRS’s ability to invest wisely and support projects that advance research to better prevent, detect, and treat cancer.
We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the departure of Lynne-Marie Postovit and Marie-Élise Parent, who have recently completed their terms. We sincerely thank them for their dedication and valuable contributions over the past years.
