Read for the cure: Celebrating 15 years
The Cancer Research Society presents the 15th edition of their annual literary event, Read for the Cure, presented by Penguin Random House Canada that connects book lovers from all across Canada.
The first edition of Read for the Cure was held in 2007, in Toronto. An event, created by Christine Biggar’s Toronto-based book club, whom had been directly impacted by cancer. Since its inception, over 1.8 million dollars have been raised which have been invested in research projects aimed at studying the environmental causes of cancer.
Read for the Cure’s 2022 season will include three events, including two in-person evenings in Vancouver and Toronto, and one virtual soirée for a national audience.
Spend a great evening with award-winning authors while raising money for the Cancer Research Society’s Environment-Cancer Fund.
Read for the Cure 2022 events:
Vancouver: Monday, October 24 – In-Person
An intimate evening in an exclusive venue with 2021 Giller Prize-winner Omar El-Akkad (What Strange Paradise), Canadian artist Douglas Coupland (Binge), and singer-songwriter Jann Arden (If I Knew Then) at Vancouver Club.

Virtual: Wednesday, November 9
Internationally bestselling authors discuss their blockbuster works in true crime, literary fiction, and memoir, including singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright (Stories I May Regret Telling You), Pulitzer Prize–winner Elizabeth Strout (Lucy by the Sea), and New York Times columnist Sarah Weinman (Scoundrel).

Toronto: Wednesday, November 23 – In-Person
Three of a generation’s most dazzling novelists bring tales of love, identity and family to Toronto’s Palais Royale on its centennial. Join Camilla Gibb (The Relatives), Kathleen Winter (Undersong), and Ann-Marie MacDonald (Fayne) for a lively discussion animated by Globe and Mail and CBC TV host Johanna Schneller.
