International Women’s Day
A celebration of women who are determined to outsmart cancer. For a second year, we launched a fully digital fundraiser for International Women's Day on March 8th.
The objective of this initiative was to allow female undergraduate students to undertake internships with top-ranked female researchers from our 2023 Operation Grant Competition. In practical terms, female students will be introduced to the field of research through the mentorship of award-winning researchers; and these researchers will receive the precious help of an intern to support them in their research projects.
”Our research will benefit from the addition of an intern by increasing our capacity to recruit and consent patients for our clinical trial. Further, the intern will benefit over their sixteen weeks with us by gaining exposure and training to both clinical and lab settings.”
– Cathie Garnis, Researcher, recipient of a CRS research grant in 2022
Although more and more women are choosing to pursue a career in science and research, today the field is still predominantly represented by men. That’s why we also wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate women’s significant contributions to cancer research and highlight their achievements.
This initiative was also a salutation to all the women who have submitted research projects as part of our annual competitions, as well as to those who have been awarded a grant or scholarship. We are proud to offer them financial support for their projects; they are some of the most promising in the country.
“I am so grateful to the Cancer Research Society (CRS) for this unique opportunity to have a young intern in the laboratory.
Many thanks to all of the donors and partners for their considerable efforts to generate funds for cancer research. With the global increase of aging populations and the projected increase in the incidence of cancer, there is an urgent need to advance research to develop personalized treatments.”
– Madhuri Koti, Researcher, recipient of a CRS research grant in 2022
Without the contribution of generous donors across the country, the support we offer our researchers would not be possible. With research, comes the hope of making major breakthroughs and building a healthier society, and we warmly thank all those who decide to support our mission.
