Selected from 190 applications from across Canada, these doctoral students will each receive a $70,000 award over two years to support their innovative research aimed at better understanding and outsmarting cancer.

“Supporting these young promising talents is a priority for us, as their research directly advances knowledge about cancer. Through their innovative ideas and bold approaches, they will drive the scientific breakthroughs of tomorrow, providing concrete solutions to this disease that affects so many lives” – Dajan O’Donnell, Director, Scientific Affairs and Partnerships of the CRS.

We are pleased to reveal the list of recipients, available here.

These doctoral students, from research institutions across the country, embody excellence and innovation in the field of cancer research.

A program at the heart of our commitment

This Doctoral Research Awards program is one of three annual CRS grant programs designed to support researchers at every stage of their careers. These initiatives are aimed at funding research projects that contribute to our understanding of all types of cancer, so that we can better prevent, detect and treat them. In 2024, a total of 148 grants, representing $17.2 million, will be awarded through these three programs, reinforcing the CRS’s commitment to supporting researchers in Canada to outsmart cancer.

Thanks to our partners and donors

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners and donors, whose generosity and dedication enable these promising researchers to pursue their groundbreaking projects. We would especially like to acknowledge the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Cancer Research, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, Ovarian Cancer Canada and Brain Canada Foundation for their invaluable support in co-funding several of these awards.
