$3 million for blood cancer research

An exceptional partnership to outsmart blood cancers. Beyond the technical terminology of leukemias, myelomas, lymphomas, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative neoplasms, lies a far more striking reality: more than 155,000 Canadians are grappling with diverse forms of blood cancers. These cancers strike unpredictably, impacting children, young adults, and the elderly alike.

In response to this reality, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) are jointly announcing an exceptional partnership, amounting to $3 million, dedicated to research on blood cancers.

This collaboration enables the funding of 15 research projects, each receiving a financial support of $200,000 over a two-year period. Each of these projects has been carefully selected by esteemed scientific peers, distinguished by their promising potential, innovative character, and capacity to deepen our understanding of the underlying mechanisms driving blood cancers. Moreover, these research studies also pave the way for new perspectives on more effective and personalized patient treatments.

“By joining forces in this remarkable partnership, we demonstrate our commitment to supporting cutting-edge research to outsmart blood cancers,” declares Dajan O’Donnell, PhD, Director, Scientific Affairs and Partnerships at the CRS. “The Cancer Research Society supports projects that explore the many facets of blood cancers while improving therapeutic options. By optimizing strategic partnerships, we ensure that each donation becomes an impulse for research, thus amplifying our impact.”

“We are able to invest in more of Canada’s leading blood cancer researchers conducting vital and innovative investigations through partnerships such as this,” says Nadine Prevost, business unit director – Research and community support, LLSC. “We support both the research of, and people affected by, 137 types of blood cancer within leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative neoplasms.”
