$201,000 raised for the 26th edition of the Cyclo-Golf Classic
The Cyclo-Golf Classic, the Cancer Research Society’s golf and cycling event, was held on Thursday, August 15, and helped raise $201,000 to support the most promising cancer research projects in Canada.
150 people gathered at the Elm Ridge Golf Club for this 26th edition, to show their support to cancer research. “We’d like to send our most heartfelt gratitude to all participants and partners who have made this event possible over so many years. Together, we have raised and invested over 4 million dollars in Canadian cutting-edge research. It is thanks to the community’s unwavering support that our researchers are given the means to work towards outsmarting cancer, » declared Sonia Chatoyan, director of development at the Cancer Research Society.
TThis 2019 edition came with novelty. In parallel with the Montreal event, researchers from Université de Sherbrooke organized, for the first time, a cycling component in Sherbrooke. Over 40 participants gathered to ride and support the Cyclo-Golf Classic’s fundraising efforts. “Last year, a team of Université de Sherbrooke Medical School attended the Cyclo-Golf Classic in Montreal. This experience inspired us to organize our own fundraising event, in support of the battle against cancer the Society has led for almost 75 years. We hope to make it a yearly event in Sherbrooke,” explains Darel Hunting, professor and researcher at Université de Sherbrooke.
