$2 Million to Support Lung Cancer Research
In Canada, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, yet it remains one of the most underfunded in terms of research. To address this major issue, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) is investing $2 million in research on this disease.
A bold investment, bringing hope and progress
This initiative will fund four translational research projects with $500,000 each. Selected projects must explore promising avenues to improve early detection of lung cancer, develop more effective treatments, and understand mechanisms of resistance to current treatments.
“Lung cancer is responsible for approximately 20,600 deaths per year, meaning 24% of all cancer deaths in Canada. By allocating this substantial amount thanks to generous donations, we affirm our deep commitment to research and innovation, with the hope of offering a more promising future to people affected by lung cancer.”
– Manon Pepin, President and CEO of CRS
Committed partners to outsmart lung cancer
CRS is extremely grateful for the exceptional generosity of donors who enabled this significant investment to outsmart lung cancer: including the Gosselin Family Foundation and The Molson Foundation. Thanks to their extraordinary support, it was possible to implement this hopeful initiative.
“By supporting lung cancer research, we want to help researchers in making tangible progress that will benefit those affected by this type of cancer and their loved ones. My family and I are convinced that there is hope, because we believe that research saves lives.”
– Léon Gosselin of the Gosselin Family Foundation
“Our Foundation is passionate about contributing to lung cancer research that affects so many people in Canada. We firmly believe that innovative and promising projects drive major advancements, and they require adequate financial support to be realized. Investing in research is the key to a better future.”
– Andrew Molson, President of The Molson Foundation
Call to Researchers
The funded research projects will be selected as part of a special CRS Lung Cancer Translational Research Grant Competition. Submitted projects will be evaluated by an international committee of cancer experts.
